Childe Roland

I found this poem very difficult to understand. I had no clue as to the meaning of the poem, and even after the class discussion about the poem I felt a little bit lost. It was more comforting when the professor explained how all of Brownings poetry and works were hard to follow. I understood the idea of courage and the ability to reach individual goals but the poem as a whole was not easy to follow. I think there probably could be multiple interpretations taken from the poem.

I just as lost as you! There is always going to be multiple interpretations of works. Everyone has different backgrounds, ideas, etc. that will make interpretations unique to them.

I agree too that this piece was very difficult to read. However, after the class discussion I agree that the point was to show readers that one must focus on the goal, and not focus on worrying about whether they will achieve the goal or not.

this is the one i chose to write my paper on. to me i think it put into perspective what the industrial revolution was like. the plains, the river, the tower.. all had symbolism.
